Menopause
Women go through menopause at different ages, and with different degrees of discomfort and inconvenience. For some, the effects of menopause are distressing and substantial. We provide medical advice and support, to help you to manage this transition as easily as possible.
What is menopause?
The female body eventually stops preparing for the possibility of pregnancy. This involves a substantial hormonal change, generally between the ages of 45 and 55.
The time it takes for your menstrual cycle to stop – so you can no longer give birth naturally – varies from woman to woman. As can the signs that the process is underway.
Common menopausal symptoms
As menopause depends on a complex interaction of female hormones and physiology, it can bring a different experience for each person. This includes early onset menopause – before the age of 45 – when your fertility fails prematurely.
Other symptoms of menopause can last for months or even years, to varying degrees of severity. They include hot flushes (which are random and hard to control), unpleasant night sweats and poor sleep patterns. During menopause, you could also experience vaginal dryness, painful sex or loss of interest in sex. As menopause is connected to major hormonal changes, it’s also common to have altered moods, including anxiety and depression. Poor concentration and memory can also occur due to menopause.
